The story of the Spinifex Hill Artists started in South Hedland towards the end of 2008, when a group of local residents responded to a general invitation to an art workshop for Aboriginal people, called 'Let’s Get Started'. A series of painting workshops run by FORM, 'Let’s Get Started' taught new artists how to paint, while developing the skills of more established artists.

The groups’ exhibition debut at the Courthouse Gallery in 2009 was a great success. They also won the 2009 NAIDOC Artist of the Year Award and gained recognition as an emerging Pilbara art group with originality, vibrancy and heart. FORM is now supporting the group as they work on their next exhibition, Before The Town Got Big, due to be launched in November 2010. You can view the Spinifex Hill Artists’ blog here.
